The Seaborg Symposium Poster Session will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm and from 2:50 pm to 3:35 pm in the lobby of the California Nanosystems Institute (CNSI). In addition to attending the symposium, poster presenters are invited to attend, at no charge, the evening reception, dinner banquet, and awards ceremony at the Luskin Center. This year only a limited number of posters will be accepted. Should there be more submissions than can be accommodated, preference will be given to posters focused on this year's Seaborg Symposium topic - biophysics and structural biology.

Abstract Submission Instructions

  • Abstract submissions are due by Wednesday, October 31, 2018 (no submissions will be accepted after this date).
  • Soon after October 31, 2018, the chosen posters will be announced. If your poster is chosen, you will automatically be registered for the symposium and dinner. Until then, please do not register as there will be time to register after the accepted posters have been announced.
  • The Seaborg Symposium poster session is open to all undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs working in the labs of UCLA Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty.
  • Download, complete, and sign the abstract submission form and include with your abstract.
  • All research topics are welcome for the Seaborg poster session, however, if there are more submissions than can be accommodated, preference will be given to posters focused on this year's Seaborg Symposium topic - biophysics and structural biology.
  • Posters will be presented from 12-1 p.m., and from 2:50 to 3:35 p.m. in the CNSI lobby.
  • Prepare your abstract in a Word document (no PDFs please).
  • Use only Times New Roman 12 point font.
  • Abstract title should be limited to 200 characters including spaces.
  • Abstract should be limited to 2000 characters including spaces.
  • Include first author name, co-author full names and affiliations, UCLA research advisor full name and affiliation, funding sources (if applicable).

  • A high resolution version of the UCLA Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry logo can be downloaded here.
  • Send Word document file (no PDFs please) as an attachment in an e-mail to seaborg_abstracts@chem.ucla.edu.
  • In your e-mail, please specify the name of the person who will present the poster and attend the dinner banquet. Only one person per poster may present and attend the dinner banquet. Also, please specify your meal choice: fish, beef or vegetarian. You will automatically be registered for the dinner banquet when your poster is accepted.
  • If you would like to bring guest(s) to the dinner, they can register at www.seaborg.ucla.edu for the cost of $100 per person.
  • After you submit your abstract, you will receive a follow-up e-mail with details about poster setup and judging.
  • We will provide easles and poster boards which will be 48"x48".
  • All posters will be set up in the CNSI lobby.
  • It will be possible to set up your poster on Friday, Nov. 9th from 3:00 to 4:00 pm or, on Saturday, Nov. 10th from 10:30 am to 11:00 am. All posters must be ready for viewing by the judges on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. Judges will review the posters, without presenters, from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Water will be available for poster session presenters throughout the day.
  • You will be able to collect your poster either immediately after the coffee break at 3:40 p.m., or after the symposium at 5:20 p.m.

Awards

Winners will be announced and recognized at the Seaborg Medal dinner on Saturday, November 10, 2018, although winners need not be present to receive a poster award.
